Permission to Offend with Rachel Luna

What’s the first thing you do when you wake up?

Does this sound familiar? You wake up and even before your eyes open, your hand is reaching for your phone. You swipe it open, check social media, and before you know it, you’re on a stories binge watching everyone living their best lives while you’re still laying there without your teeth brushed. Yeah, that used to be me, too!

On episode 13, I shared the top 5 lessons I learned when I took a 2 week social media fast… and let me tell you, I learned a lot… and now I’m back sharing what I’m doing to stay clean after my social media detox so I don’t relapse into social media dopamine addiction. So much good stuff!

In this episode, I share how my morning routine has drastically changed since my social media detox, my intentionality has increased, and how & why I’m delegating metrics. I believe when we experience new things, it’s the perfect time to give yourself permission to build new habits. And like all the best lessons, what I learned about my brain, behavior, and myself has helped me change my habits moving forward when it comes to social media. Let’s dive in!

3 Reasons You Should Listen to Today's Episode

- When you wake up, your hand grabs your phone before your eyes are even open. Yep, I used to be you. I share how a social media sober morning routine looks differently for me than before my social media detox.

- If you’re curious about the nerdy neuroscience behind habit forming and how it plays a role into living & posting intentionally. I share how delegating social metrics helps you ask more quality questions to create more quality content.

- If you’ve gotten into a default pattern of sharing great tips but nobody’s buying your thing… tune in!

How many times do you pick up your phone in a day?

On November 1st I deleted all social media apps from my phone. Gone. As I shared last week in episode 11, I chose to take a 2 week social media fast… and let me tell you, I learned a lot… and I’m sharing those lessons with you today. So much good stuff!

In this episode, I share 5 lessons I learned from taking time away from social media and spending more quality time with myself. I believe when we experience new things, it’s the perfect time to give yourself permission to get curious. And like all the best lessons, what I learned about my brain, behavior, and myself has helped me change my habits moving forward when it comes to social media. Let’s dive in!

3 Reasons You Should Listen to Today's Episode

- Dopamine withdrawal is a real thing! I share nerdy facts about the connection between our brains, social media, and content creation. You’ll be shocked by how many times on average we pick up our phones each day! I have a hypothesis to run by you as well.

- If you’re like me, you’d think productivity would be off the charts without social media, right?! Turns out, productivity is a choice. Let me explain my surprising discovery.

- Two treasures that came from the quiet when you’re not consuming. These two things alone are incentive alone to change the way I engage with and consume social media moving forward.

Cara is the Madonna of reinvention and female empowerment, Creator of The Champagne Diet, author of 9 books including the international best-seller, Girl Code, curator at The Champagne Diet Boutique, and mother of self-development. Her story and all the mindset gems she drops are incredible!

As you’ll hear in this episode, Cara had so much value to share and such an inspiring story - I could have talked to Cara for hours! Grab your journal, it’s a noteworthy conversation!

- If you’re multi-passionate and need to reframe reinvention as a strength for taking fearless action towards your dreams and goals.

Where can you give yourself permission to protect your peace?

Have you ever noticed when something that usually brings you energy and joy… starts to lose it spark for you? Or maybe even a step further, it starts draining you and you start experiencing dread or resentment? Yeah, I experienced that recently, too.

In this episode of the Permission to Offend podcast, I share how I knew I needed to protect my energy and peace in a new way and why I chose to be off social media for a period of time, even though that is usually a place I find joy and connection. I hope that sharing my experience challenges you to assess where you’ve been showing up or going through the motions because you feel an expectation from others and instead give yourself permission to protect your peace, even if it disappoints others (or messes with the algorithm).

3 Reasons You Should Listen to Today's Episode

 - If you’ve ever had an idea and weren’t sure when to take action and when to hold off.

 - If you’ve considered taking a break from social media and yet feel pulled in all directions.

 - Wondering how social media affects our brains & behaviors.

Where can you give yourself permission to take action?

We get so good about sitting back and waiting for opportunities to come to us. We also get really good at planning, that can easily become overthinking.

My guest today on the Permission to Offend podcast is Emma Isaacs: entrepreneur, owner of Business Chicks, and author of the international best-selling book, Winging It: Stop Thinking, Start Doing: why action beats planning every time.

In this episode, Emma shares why it’s time to stop waiting, hoping, and planning and give yourself permission to take action and create opportunities for yourself.

Immediately after listening to this conversation, you must grab a copy of Emma’s book, Winging It! I have marked mine up and got so much value from reading it! Plus, the packaging totally hooked me! Attention to detail gets me every time.

3 Reasons You Should Listen to Today's Episode

- You’ll hear how Emma uses fear and discomfort to propel her towards action. She says facing fear doesn’t feel good until it’s over.

- You’ll learn the importance of exploring your money stories and how they evolve at each new level. In doing so, give yourself permission to ask “what do I want?”

- Emma and Rachel talk about how our stories about money, time, and success depend on our perspectives & seasons and how getting clear on your why informs the evolution of your stories and the actions you take.

What’s your “once I ____… then___” thought?

Are you putting all your chips in the basket of “when I [insert big goal/milestone]... then I will [desired feeling/outcome]. What happens when you lose it all

In this episode, I share my thoughts on a message Mel Robbins shared on her 52nd birthday about challenges she’s facing. Yes, Mel Robbins. The Mel Robbins who exploded in her 40s with incredible accomplishments: author, TED Talk, tv show, keynote speaker… lost so much this year, like so many of us.

In this episode I want us to dive into what makes accomplishing a goal feel good and not feel good.

3 Questions to Ask Yourself as You Listen to Today's Episode:

  • Where do I find myself constantly striving for the “once I… then...” goals?
  • How can I find joy in the mundane on the journey?
  • Where can I celebrate and honor myself in the messy middle? This episode is brought to you by the Faith Activated Journaling Experience. The Faith Activated Journaling Experience is a year-long experience for the
